Transforming the NHS Estate
Health Spaces will be exhibiting at the second annual Transforming the NHS Estate Event on 29th September. Joined by our healthcare architects and construction specialists, the event will provide NHS delegates with the latest policy updates regarding the current status of capital funding and the maintenance backlog. Access to case studies will give a practical insight into how NHS trusts have successfully implemented transformed estates in their regions.
Leadership and development issues for the NHS estates and facilities workforce will be addressed, including recruitment, retention, diversity and appropriate pay structures.
NHS Estates are at the centre of the Government’s plans for transforming the NHS and the largest hospital building plan in a generation was launched in 2019. It plans to deliver a long-term programme of investment in health infrastructure, with an investment of £2.8 billion for six large hospitals to be built by 2025. A further 21 schemes will be delivered between 2025 and 2030.
Last year’s event featured presentations from representatives of NHS Estates Delivery Unit, NHS Shared Business Services, Department of Health and Social Care, and University of East London.
According to data released by NHS Digital, it cost £9.7 billion to the NHS estate in 2019/20. Recent research states that the cost to eradicate the current NHS estates maintenance backlog is upwards of £6bn. 14% of the estate dates from before the formation of the NHS and 46% was more than 33 years old.
