Healthcare Design

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust urgently needed to provide Emergency Department staff with a dedicated welfare space. Utilising Modern Methods of Construction, Health Spaces created pre-constructed healthcare modules designed to include canteen space (including kitchenette and breakout area), WCs, shower rooms, storage areas and lockers for NHS staff.  The design needed to feel connected to the main hospital build but also provide a dedicated, quiet space for staff downtime.

Modular Hospital Construction by Health Spaces

“Once you’re inside, you don’t really notice that you’re in an extended modular build. It feels part of the building, which makes it more of a homely environment.” – Ross Williams, Head of Nursing, Emergency Department.

“The installation of the modular build went very well smoothly from the day it arrived to the final handover. Although it was very clearly a modular build, when it was craned in, the flow through from the departments flows very nicely. We had a single point of contact who liaised between the clinical staff and build team, and that line of communication worked really well.”

This off-site construction project utilised three modular units which were installed within one day

The Health Spaces Difference

As well as enjoying increased space for staff, the Trust have been very pleased with the Health Spaces quality.  The Health Spaces team on site worked exceptionally well with Conquest Hospital’s estates team and demonstrated a professionalism and an accommodating approach that was consistently noted and appreciated by all.

“There was minimal disruption to the clinical staff and clinical space, and the build team were very respectful. The staff are really happy with the build and the development. It’s gone really well and the staff are really enjoying the end product.”
