Modern Methods of Construction at Leicester General Hospital

We are delighted to be working with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust to deliver a bespoke modular hospital extension for their Radiology Department at Leicester General Hospital using Modern Methods of Construction.

Oliver Needham, Capital Project Manager for the Trust, explains:

“We are very excited to see the on-site construction phase of this modular building project commence, having been planning it alongside the Health Spaces design teams for the last few months.”

“The minimal disruption to our day to day operations that this Modern Method of Construction (MMC) offers is a serious advantage over traditional building techniques, and our colleagues in Radiology are very much looking forward to the new facility being operational in a matter of weeks.”

After a smooth groundworks phase, the modular units have now been delivered to the hospital, to be followed by a very short installation stage. Updates to the hospital construction project will follow shortly.

Without being restricted to any specific default construction method, we offer complete flexibility from an assured supply chain to ensure for healthcare construction services that meet the exact real-world requirements for patient spaces and clinical environments. Working with modular partners to utilise the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction, Health Spaces are able to deliver a rapid build with minimal disruption to the day-to-day operations at the hospital. By pre-constructing the modular builds, it helps to reduce construction time and ensures that the modular builds can arrive to site nearing completion.

In the example of Modern Methods of Construction at Leicester General Hospital, the modular units arrived 95% complete. This allows for a ‘Just in Time’ delivery to the hospital (minimising any disruption to traffic or patient/staff flow) and a short installation stage.
