The consult/exam room is designed to be flexible to a Trust’s individual requirements while remaining fully compliant with HBNs. Options include a consult only room, and consult/exam rooms with options to position the examination couch near to a window or near to the door respectively. Further variations are available.

Consultations that take place in these spaces may just be discussions about the patient’s needs and concerns, or an examination may be required in which case patients should be able to dress and undress in privacy before this is undertaken along with the clinical staff having access to clinical hand washing stations. Patients may arrive on foot or in a wheelchair, therefore the space should be easily accessible.
