Health on the High Street – Making it Happen
“There are a range of clinical, community, diagnostic and mental health and wellbeing services which can be provided in high street settings. Critically, not only can they be provided on the high street, the effectiveness of and engagement with these services may well be improved by being situated there. What they will also certainly do is improve the high street’s local ‘offer’, ensuring a more sustainable, viable and prosperous community.”- Michael Wood, Head of Health Economic Partnerships at the NHS Confederation.

FORTIS event: Transforming Healthcare Delivery through Estates Strategy
*This event has now ended – hosted live 13th March 2024*
Agenda:
- Creating an estate strategy & stakeholder engagement
- Development of capital into short, medium and long-term goals
- Leadership, governance, principles for moving forwards
A well thought-out and robust estate strategy is essential to the provision of safe, efficient and patient-centric healthcare services capable of supporting current and future needs.
An estate strategy cannot be developed in isolation but must be seamlessly integrated into the broader context of site-specific and system and regional-wide planning.
Building on content and discussion from FORTIS magazine which explores the development of robust NHS estate strategies and the benefits of Development Control Plans (DCPs) , this virtual roundtable webinar gives a deep dive into best practice advice in developing estate strategies, discussing the latest work from NHS teams from ICBs, mental health and acute NHS Trusts.
We find out how today’s estate challenges are being responded to, unlocking real-world, actionable insights into delivering robust strategies.

Striking the Balance: Robust Design and Therapeutic Environments

What measures can be taken to guarantee that the design of mental health spaces caters to the needs of both patients and staff? How can we drive continuous improvement in this area?
As custodians of both established and new mental health spaces, we have an opportunity to ensure design is right from the beginning, delivering spaces that can provide excellent standards of care and treatment of mental health, improving both the lives of those who using the services and staff working within the setting.

Reducing Pressure on the Acute Setting
*Hosted live 29th June 2023| 1pm-2pm| Event now closed*
Alongside our monthly webinars, we host quarterly thought-leadership workshops for healthcare leaders and NHS executives.
In a resource constrained environment, what has the most impact on the acute setting? In our next thought-leadership webinar, our panel of healthcare experts will examine how acute hospital operations can be impacted by transforming outpatient support and services; the success of accessing diagnostics within the community and the impact of digital innovation on patient experience, as well as case studies demonstrating a strategic approach to the use of estate space.
Agenda
- Examining the pressures in an acute hospital – live case studies.
- The impact of diagnostics on the high street – including Health on the High Street case studies and examples of how we are seeing clinical expertise being connected into a space. Dorset NHS will examine its role in working with diverse partners to reimagine the use of space on the high street and building on economic development whilst improving the health and social care experience for the people of Dorset.
- Estates strategy – from reducing pressure in emergency care to supporting elective recovery targets.
- Digital innovations for patient centred care – how can digital bring clinical teams and patients together? What are indicators to look for when making a decision on the appropriate system to use for maximum results? If your NHS Trust only has the option to roll out one digital efficiency, what should it be?
Speakers:
Nick Jenkins – Emergency Department Consultant, West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
Ashleigh Boreham, Deputy Chief Officer of Strategy and Transformation, NHS Dorset
Marcia Lewis, Clinical and Transformational Consultant, Productive Partners
“As part of our Concept Ward we are developing a research proposal to really look at how we measure those benefits and whether they have had the intended benefits we think they have. Whether it’s improvements in infection control, length of stay, quality of care, patient feedback, staff feedback. All of that put together – what are the benefits – will help us to inform decisions as we move forwards to a New Hospital Programme.”
Paul Morris, Chief Nurse, James Paget University Hospital.

NHP has stated that all new hospitals are to be built with single rooms only. The commitment to single rooms represents a major change to traditional British multi-bed wards, and the effects on hospital design are likely to require amendments to many NHS Trusts’ current proposals.
Agenda
- Thinking: understanding existing research, the process of innovative co-design
- Objectives & learnings from single rooms: for the wider hospital and future builds
- Key lessons for NHS Trusts as they move to 100% single rooms
