Understand phase: developing the strategic direction
Hospital estates and design consultants, we work closely with NHS Trusts to identify and articulate key challenges within an NHS estate.
Our healthcare consultancy work focuses on gathering a detailed understanding of all the different facets of a project – from analysing patient and nursing needs to long term estate strategy and wider service infrastructure.
Working closely with you from the beginning of your NHS estates strategy journey, we can ensure delivery of the right services and disciplines required to meet the individual challenges faced by your Trust.
Multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals will work with you to analyse the entirety of your project, building on workflows including healthcare economics, healthcare planning, population growth, and demand and capacity modelling.
The objective for this stage is to clarify and develop the strategic direction of the project and establish a strategic brief.
Clinical strategy
Health and clinical planning
Before the design programme can begin, clinical and health planners take the time to fully understand and analyse the needs of your patients and all stakeholders, including at Trust, system, regional and national levels. Workflows take into consideration future demand analysis, demographics, models of care and accessibility of healthcare.
To understand your clinical requirement in detail, stakeholder engagement workshops, site appraisals and feasibility studies will be undertaken.
During the healthcare consultancy phases, we work on the very early stages of identifying and articulating key challenges, and developing a strategy to fix them.

Stakeholder interviews
We dig deep into the core priorities for a project, articulating the purpose and objective behind it. Individual interviews with each stakeholder take place to understand a Trust’s strategic objectives, the project aspirations, potential barriers to success and how we will measure success. Launching the project with alignment throughout all stakeholders is critical for maintaining a rapid and stress-free pace and keeping to programme for the rest of the project journey.
Clinical workshops
We work with clinicians to understand how the Trust’s objectives can be delivered operationally. We understand what gaps there are in our knowledge around demand and capacity and other key data, assess different models of care and pathways, and establish the project brief.
