Santa Stair Climb 2024

The Health Spaces team are taking part in a festive charity event to raise money to help tackle London’s hunger crisis

The Felix Project is a charity that helps feed local communities in London by saving good, surplus food from suppliers – such as supermarkets, wholesalers and restaurants – and delivering it to more than 900 food banks, charities, primary schools and holiday programmes. The food is all high-quality and nutritious, with the majority being fresh fruit and vegetables. The charity aims to win the fight against food waste and hunger in London.

Last year, The Felix Project gave out the equivalent of 32 million meals to 1,119 community organisations and more than 170 schools across every London borough. Half of those meals ended up at organisations supporting those living in the top fifth most deprived areas in London.

To support their activities, the charity is hosting the Santa Stair Climb on 8th December, which challenges participants to climb all 1,031 steps and 48 floors of Canary Wharf’s iconic One Canada Square. Health Spaces are taking on the challenge alongside 10 participants from companies with which they work.

Max, Head of Design, said: “I walk everywhere in London, so I consider that my ‘training’ for the event. I did the Gherkin Challenge [running up 1,000 steps to the top of the Gherkin building in London’s financial district] about a decade ago and survived with a respectable time, so I consider this to be my personal medical test for this decade!”

Valentin, Design Manager, added: “I believe in the cause that The Felix Project fights for and I also thought it would be a great bonding and team-building experience for Health Spaces and our partners. I’m looking forward to seeing London from the top of One Canada Square – a building I used to see from my window for many years while living in nearby Poplar.”

Each climber has a fundraising target £300, so the team hopes to raise £4,500 in total, “but it would be great if we could exceed our target!” says Beth, Creative Design Lead at Health Spaces.

“It’s a fun and meaningful way to support a fantastic cause, helping to provide nutritious meals to those in need while challenging myself for a great community effort. I’ll been taking on extra tasks around our Peterborough and Westminster offices, making sure to walk between floors, take the stairs at every opportunity, and stay active throughout the day to get as many extra steps in as possible!” continues Beth.

The climb takes approximately 30 minutes of thigh-burning effort, and the team will complete the challenge in themed T-shirts and Santa hats.
