Aligning Estates Decisions with Evolving Care Pathways Roundtable

We’ve hosted our first Health Spaces X FORTIS event this May, bringing together colleagues from across healthcare, estates, infrastructure and digital transformation to discuss how estate decisions can better align with evolving care pathways.

It was a valuable opportunity to step back from individual projects and explore the wider pressures shaping healthcare infrastructure, from ageing estates and constrained capital to the need for more flexible, future-ready models of care.

Across the discussion, a recurring theme was the need to move beyond “build more space” as the default response to rising demand. Conversations explored the role of neighbourhood health models, community diagnostics, virtual wards and technology-enabled care in relieving pressure on acute estates and supporting more joined-up pathways. There was also strong focus on the importance of system-wide thinking, making better use of existing estate and ensuring capital investment is guided by long-term service needs, not just short-term operational pressure.

Altogether, the event highlighted how healthcare estates must continue evolving to support better patient outcomes, workforce experience and system resilience over the long term.
